VTTI Director Thomas A. Dingus served as a panel member during the Oct. 9 RealClearPolitics discussion about the dangers of distracted driving.
Dingus and researchers at VTTI pioneered naturalistic driving studies that capture the behaviors of drivers during real-world conditions. Using this method and a data collection system developed in-house, VTTI researchers have found that the use of handheld devices such as smartphones is the most common distracted driving habit to date. VTTI research has also shown that texting, dialing, typing, and even reaching for a phone pose significant risks while driving. Find out more about the impact of VTTI research on distracted driving policy.
